My mission is to help each child reach their full potential by teaching content that is accessible and engaging. I help students to identify their unique learning styles by giving them a "tool box" filled with strategies that will enable them to advocate for themselves and be incharge of their own learning.
I provide individualized academic support in Reading, Writing, Math, test taking and study skills. Outside of academic support, students and I work together to grow their executive functioning skills which include task completion, organization, and follow through on assignments.
If your child is struggling or anxious about school and learning, or if you are struggling and worried about your child's performance in school, let's discuss if my support would be the right fit for your child's needs.
How is a learning specialist different from a tutor?
Tutors
Tutors reteach subjects taught in school.
They generally help a student succeed in one content area.
Are tasked with helping with specific assignments.
Tutors might be a college student, professionals trained in a specific teaching approach, adults with a different part or full time job or certified teacher.
Learning Specialists
A learning specialist is a certified teacher with special education training.
A learning specialist is an educator who is skilled and experienced in providing learning strategies to students who struggle with learning differences.
They will conduct an informal evaluation to see where the learning deficits may be.
A learning specialist will put together a set of goals and benchmarks that are reviewed on a monthly basis. These goals will help to “fill in the gaps” of critical foundational skills that a child may be lacking.
They teach research based skills and strategies to help students have success in their unique learning styles and improve their schoolwork.
They can help your child’s learning develop at a deep level, which in turn, can help to improve grades, confidence, and overall learning experiences.
A learning specialist works together with teachers and parents to help them understand how a student learns and provide strategies and resources that may benefit the student.
